Before you start
- Your site needs to be published, with a domain connected. Connecting a domain takes a paid Wix plan, so a free site on a Wix address can't use Custom Code.
- Your snippet from Websites in the Pidge inbox.
<script>window.$pidge = []; window.PIDGE_WEBSITE_ID = "YOUR-WEBSITE-ID";</script> <script src="https://app.pidge.chat/client/l.js" async></script>
Your own copy is in the Pidge inbox under Websites, in Code for your website, with your website ID already filled in. Copy it from there.
Add the snippet
- Go to your site's dashboard and open Settings.
- Under Development & integrations, click Custom Code.
- Click + Add Custom Code at the top right.
- Paste the snippet into the code box and give it a name you'll recognise, like "Pidge chat".
- Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages, and have it load once rather than on each new page.
- Under Place Code in, choose Body - end.
- Click Apply.
List your domains in Pidge
The chat only connects on domains you've listed for the website. In the inbox, open
Websites and put each domain on its own line in
Domains. Subdomains are included, so example.com also
covers www.example.com.
Add the domain you connected to Wix, like example.com.
Check that it works
- Open the live site on your domain in a private window. The chat won't show in the Wix editor or its preview.
- The chat bubble should be in the bottom corner. Send yourself a message and answer it from the inbox.
- In the inbox, the website's Not installed yet label goes away after the first visit from a listed domain.
If the bubble shows but the chat won't connect, the domain you're on isn't in the website's list in Pidge. If there's no bubble at all, the snippet isn't on the page, or the platform is still serving an older copy of it.
Things to know
- Wix ties custom code to your domain. If you connect a different domain later, check that the snippet is still there.
- If you use Wix's cookie banner, Wix files custom code as essential unless you change it. You can set a different category in the snippet's settings, if your cookie policy needs that.
