Before you start
- Code Injection needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, or one of a few older plans. It isn't on Basic.
- It works during the free trial.
- Your snippet from Websites in the Pidge inbox.
<script>window.$pidge = []; window.PIDGE_WEBSITE_ID = "YOUR-WEBSITE-ID";</script> <script src="https://app.pidge.chat/client/l.js" async></script>
Your own copy is in the Pidge inbox under Websites, in Code for your website, with your website ID already filled in. Copy it from there.
Add the snippet
- In your site's editor, open the Pages panel.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Custom Code, then Code Injection.
- Paste the snippet into the Footer field.
- Click Save.
The Footer field goes on every page of the site. The chat won't show on checkout pages, because Squarespace doesn't run custom code there. A lock page has its own field.
On an older 7.0 site, Code Injection sits in a different menu. Squarespace's guide, linked at the bottom, covers both versions.
List your domains in Pidge
The chat only connects on domains you've listed for the website. In the inbox, open
Websites and put each domain on its own line in
Domains. Subdomains are included, so example.com also
covers www.example.com.
Add your own domain. If people also visit the site on its built-in address, like
yoursite.squarespace.com, add that too.
Check that it works
- Open the live site in a private window, logged out. Don't judge it from the editor, which may not run your code.
- The chat bubble should be in the bottom corner. Send yourself a message and answer it from the inbox.
- In the inbox, the website's Not installed yet label goes away after the first visit from a listed domain.
If the bubble shows but the chat won't connect, the domain you're on isn't in the website's list in Pidge. If there's no bubble at all, the snippet isn't on the page, or the platform is still serving an older copy of it.
Later on
If the site moves to the Basic plan, the snippet stays in Code Injection but stops running, and the chat goes away. It comes back if you move up again. If the editor ever misbehaves after adding code, Squarespace's guide explains how to open it with scripts turned off.
